Sailing on Maui, Hawaii – second part

I’m back with the second part of my experience about sailing with Kainani Sails with day one and day two of our trip.

After we finished the organization of our adventure and had everything on board, we started sailing downwind to Manele Bay, Lanai Island. Lanai Island was the first stop during our trip. It is a very quiet destination which is located off the bustle of every day life. This small island is very romantic and guarantees a relaxing holiday. We could see the owner of Lanai Island, Larry Ellison, and his boat in the bay as well. Honestly his boat was a little bit bigger than ours, but that doesn’t matterSmile !

When we arrived at the harbour, Keao, Iwa and my husband Rodriguez fixed the boat. I decided to enjoy my passive role as the “luxury” sailor  ! The harbour Lanai Island, Manele Bay, is offering showers and toilets for those who arrive. This is kind of a common standard of the harbours around Hawaii.

After arriving we walked about five minutes to the great beach Hulopoe Park. This sheltered bay is opposite to the Four Season Resort Lanai at Manele Bay. www.fourseasons.com/manelebay/  It is the best place on the island for snorkeling and swimming. The Hulopoe Beach Park is also offering a beautiful beach park with picnic tables, barbecues, toilets and showers to all of its guests. The Four Seasons Resort Lanai is the only hotel on the island.

On our first evening on Lanai Island we had a great dinner on the boat. Keao heated his “Weber” grill and together with Iwa he prepared a wonderful menu. This evening was really gorgeous, I mean, chilling and grilling on a boat under the stars – can you imagine something better? I can´t! On this first night we got to know our neighbours Scott and Kim, who were living on a catamaran. We had a good time with them because they were really funny. Kim showed us her two white “handbag” dogs. Every morning she brings them out of the boat for a morning walk. Together with her husband Scott she owns  bikini stores on the islands of Maui and Oahu. That´s why Kim is known as “BikiniKim” – and their catamaran has got the same name.

Because it was the perfect place for swimming and snorkeling, we decided to spend the second day on the LanaiHulopoe Parkas well. I enjoyed the first sunbeams of the day while I was doing some Pilates under the trees in the harbour of Lanai Island. The main reason why we spent two days here was the New Year’s Eve. December 31stwas the second day of our adventure and we wanted to celebrate on Hulopoe Park beach because we knew the firework was organized by Larry Ellison. When I cast my mind back to this day, I have to say, that it was definitely the right choice. At New Year´s Eve we were really tired from spending the whole day outdoor in the sun. So we asked Iwa and Keao to give us a wakeup call before midnight because we didn´t want to miss the firework.

Luckily we managed it – and here is the result! Take a look on the video we made at Lanai Island. What can be better than celebrating New Year´s Eve on the beach!!
